[Concert Introduction] The 12 Cellists of the Berliner Philharmoniker July, twelve cellos, and the romance of a midsummer night. Celebrating their 54th anniversary, the 12 Cellists of the Berlin Philharmonic return to the Korean stage for the 26th time, following their performance last year. Meeting the twelve cellists of the Berlin Philharmonic is a gift in itself, and the energy shared between the audience and the performers creates a sense of unity. Their greatest strength and defining characteristic is achieving balance through a flexible inner sound rather than the soloists showing off their individual abilities. This balance is also evident in their repertoire selection, allowing the audience to hear and see the unified performance of twelve masters in its purest form. This concert features a diverse program encompassing a wide range of eras and genres, from the classical repertoire of Antonín Dvořák and Erik Satie to Edith Piaf and Ennio Morricone. The program includes familiar classical works such as ‘Slavonic Dances’ and ‘Gymnopédies,’ as well as chansons like ‘No, I Regret Nothing’ and ‘Under the Parisian Sky,’ and film scores such as ‘Once Upon a Time in America’ and ‘The Man with the Harmonica.’ All works have been reborn as new arrangements for twelve cellos, promising to offer a depth and color distinct from the original compositions.
