[Performance Introduction] MODAFE (International Contemporary Dance Festival), which has led the trends of contemporary dance in Korea, has opened new horizons for contemporary dance art for over 40 years. Moving beyond a mere arts festival, MODAFE has established itself as an authoritative dance festival that shares artworks from around the world and provides creative opportunities to artists, earning deep trust from artists both at home and abroad. To date, over 200 international groups and 440 domestic groups have participated through MODAFE, and more than 1,300 works have been staged. The international network and artistic solidarity built through the festival have grown MODAFE into a global platform that attracts the attention of choreographers and dance companies worldwide. Evolving annually with newer and more inclusive formats, MODAFE aims to share artistic experiences that transcend the boundaries of time and dreams, as well as a venue for international exchange, under the theme "MODAFE Beyond Time, Beyond Dreams" for its 45th edition in 2026. MODAFE aims to foster continuous growth as a global festival and promote the diverse artistic values and meanings of contemporary dance, serving as a platform where artists from various nations share their creative worlds and expand the scope of artistic communication across boundaries. Artwork Introduction Kim Hyemi <Zero-sum Game> About the Choreographer Kim Hyemi focuses on the actions and moments of relationships that are often overlooked in daily life. She unravels the tension and discord revealed within repetitive choices and trivial actions through movement, continuing her choreographic work to explore the sense of subtle balance formed within this context. Artwork Description <Zero-sum Game> is a record of an ironic symbiosis where individuals must support one another to avoid defeat amidst competition for limited "positions." The chair symbolizes the "set share" granted by our society, revealing the reality of the precarious balance faced by the younger generation. Choreography: Kim Hyemi Performers: Kim Hyemi, Kim Seungwook Sound Design: Uzikov Sound Dramaturg: Lee Hwasun Duration: 13 min Park Sojung <Escape from Freedom> About the Choreographer Park Sojung is a choreographer who explores self-identity based on sensations and experiences accumulated in the body. Through representative works such as <Written Body> and <Road Movie>, she explores the body, identity, and relationships. By traversing the boundaries of research, creation, and education, she experimentally expands contemporary discourse on the body on stage. Work Description Is freedom liberation, or is it the beginning of another isolation? Humans who have attained freedom gain independence and rationality, but they are forced to endure isolation and anxiety. We follow the trajectory of the body, wavering before choices, seeking solace in contact with others by approaching and retreating, and hesitating between freedom and safety. Where does the end of a belief that once seemed everlasting lie? Choreography: Park So-jung Performers: Park So-jung, Jegal Jun-hae, Kim Gyo-jin, Seo Ji-na Costumes: Choi In-sook Duration: 13 min Kang Hyun-wook <Emotional Expression Reaction> About the Choreographer Kang Hyun-wook is a choreographer who explores the conflict between inner human instincts and emotions through the body. He continues to create works that reveal emotional states—which are suppressed or exhausted within social norms—through the language of movement. His work questions contemporary sensibilities through the relationship between the human inner self and the body. Work Description This piece deals with the human condition of being unable to express emotions despite feeling them. Through the hesitation and evasive movements of the body attempting to escape from emotions, it reveals the process of the failure to express emotions and the physical and mental exhaustion that accumulates as a result. Choreography & Performance: Kang Hyun-wook Composition: Jeong Do-hoon Duration: 13 min Yang Ha-young <A choice without a choice> About the Choreographer Yang Ha-young is a choreographer who unfolds narratives derived from personal experiences and human emotions through movement. She constructs a stage where reality and fantasy intersect through scenes and images that seem likely to occur in a dream. Through moments of resonance with the audience's emotions, the stage unfolds like a dreamlike space. Work Description <A choice without a choice> is a work that begins with the perspective that humans participate in the game of "life" from the moment they are born. Within this unstoppable game, we level up in our own ways, passing through despair, hope, and rest to advance to the next stage.
