Synopsis
[Performance Introduction] What will we hope for as we gather there? We are all gathered at the theater, waiting for the total solar eclipse that begins in 180 minutes. It has been a full 375 years since a total solar eclipse was seen in this region, and it may be a rare moment we experience only once in a lifetime. What will we hope for as we gather there? What will we become after seeing what we have longed for? Will we become something else and scatter? *Waiting for a Total Solar Eclipse* transforms not the thing we were waiting for, but the ‘time spent waiting for it’ into a performance. Whether you are lying down, sleeping, or looking at your phone, you can simply wait together. Although we are divided into audience and creator, perhaps we are all in the same situation. Transcending that dichotomy, we create a single play together. What we saw at the theater today is what we created. Not something we made for you, but something we created together, of our own accord. In this way, passing by theaters that merely consume events, we become a loose and temporary community in the gestures we encounter by chance.
