[Program] Zdenek Fibich, Quintet for violin, clarinet, horn, cello and piano in D major, Op. 42 Messiaen, ‘Appel interstellaire’ from Des Canyons aux etoiles Dvořák, Serenade for winds, cello and double bass in D minor, Op. 44 * The program and performers are subject to change. The host for this chamber music concert is Stefan Dohr, who has served as the principal horn of the Berlin Philharmonic for over 30 years, from 1993 to the present. Together with members of the Seoul Philharmonic Orchestra, Dohr establishes the pillars of this program with works by Czech composers. These are Zdenek Fiebig’s Quintet for violin, clarinet, horn, cello, and piano, which blows like a gentle breeze, and Antonín Dvořák’s Serenade for woodwinds, cello, and double bass, which is impressive for its rare and weighty melodic sensibility. Between these two works, which share a classical beauty, is Olivier Messiaen’s “The Call of the Stars” from *From the Canyon to the Stars*. The musician who created harmonies with the orchestra members in the first piece suddenly stands on stage as a soloist, playing a signal on the horn to head toward the universe.
