[PROGRAM] Brahms, Violin Concerto in D major, Op. 77 Walton, Symphony No. 1 in B-flat minor * Program and performers are subject to change. Although there are only two works on stage, the program could not be more substantial. Markus Stenz, who served as the orchestra's Principal Guest Conductor with the Seoul Philharmonic Orchestra from 2017 to 2021, greets the audience after a long hiatus with major works. Part 1 features Johannes Brahms's Violin Concerto. Although he began composing under the influence of Bruch's Violin Concerto No. 1, which swept the era, Brahms completed a work fully imbued with his distinctive symphonic spirit. Violinist Vadim Gluzman, who has already performed in Korea several times and met with the Seoul Philharmonic Orchestra in 2019, takes the stage as the soloist for this work. The following piece, William Walton’s Symphony No. 1, is a work that demonstrates the very power of the symphony experienced in the preceding Brahms work. Influenced by Sibelius, who first explored what the symphony could do in the 20th century, the work pays homage to the traditions built by classical music in various places, such as the contrapuntal movements seen in the final movement.
